20. Major Whiteley

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether compensation for death or injury of volunteers in all ranks of the Royal Air Force; the number accepted for the six months ended to the last convenient date; and particulars of the number of provincial recruiting offices that are at present established for this service?

Sir K. Wood

During the last six months 40,506 applications for enlistment were made, and of these 17,198 were accepted. There are 40 provincial recruiting offices and an additional one is expected to be opened in a few days' time. In addition, there are 11 mobile recruiting offices.

Mr. Day

Can the right hon. Gentleman say how long it takes to supply inquirers with the necessary forms of application?

Sir K. Wood

I will inquire and let the hon. Member know.

Mr. Day

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether there is any reason for the delay in the medical examination?
