HC Deb 01 March 1939 vol 344 c1261
62. Rear-Admiral Sir Murray Sueter

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether the officer in command of the 5th Submarine Flotilla was given any warning of the approach of the southerly gale which caused the grounding of the submarines "Sunfish" and "Sterlet" on the morning of 22nd February, in Sandown Bay, Isle of Wight; and whether these submarines sustained any damage by bumping?

The Civil Lord of the Admiralty (Colonel Llewellin)

The circumstances under which the two vessels took the ground are under investigation, and I should prefer to defer any statement until the investigation is complete. The answer to the second part of the question is in the affirmative.
