HC Deb 21 June 1939 vol 348 c2214
34. Mr. Kennedy

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he proposes to consider the establishment in any part of Scotland of factories in connection with the schemes to expedite aircraft production?

Sir K. Wood

Yes, Sir. I shall be very ready to continue to consider suitable sites in Scotland for any further requirements that may arise in connection with the Royal Air Force expansion scheme. As the right hon. Gentleman is, I think, aware, it is not the intention at the present time to establish any further factories for the manufacture of complete aircraft. Considerable capacity has already been created for this purpose and a number of new factories are at present in an advanced state of construction.

Mr. Kennedy

Does that answer mean that no sites in Scotland are now being considered?

Sir K. Wood

If there are any further requirements, which may arise at any time, I will gladly consider Scotland in that connection. I think the right hon. Member will agree that I have made considerable efforts to meet the position in Scotland.
