HC Deb 15 June 1939 vol 348 c1477
11. Mr. Watkins

asked the Minister of Labour the cause of the increase of the number of unemployed from 6,886 in March, 1937, to 8.757 in March, 1939, in Hackney?

Mr. E. Brown

An examination of the industrial classification of unemployed persons registering at the Hackney Employment Exchange shows that an increase in the numbers unemployed in the period referred to occurred in most of the industries carried on in the district but mainly in the furniture trades.
