HC Deb 07 June 1939 vol 348 c405
36. Wing-Commander Wright

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether he will take the opportunity afforded by the merger of Imperial Airways, Limited, and British Airways, Limited, to bring about closer co-ordination between the interests concerned in the development of new types of civil aircraft for commercial purposes?

Sir K. Wood

Yes, Sir. I appointed a Committee under the chairmanship of Mr. Harold Brown last February with the following terms of reference: To consider, with the proposed merger of Imperial Airways and British Airways in view, how best to improve co-ordination between aircraft constructors, air line operators and the Air Ministry in the production of civil air lines, and how development work can best be initiated, controlled and— within approved limits— financed. The Committee have now reported and I have arranged for their report to be published very shortly as a White Paper.
