asked the Minister of Health whether he will give the total numbers of working-class houses built by private enterprise during the last 10 years in England and Wales for sale and for letting purposes, respectively?

During the period 1st October, 1933, to 31st March, 1939, 1,258,747 houses of a rateable value not exceeding £26 (£35 in Greater London) were built by private enterprise without State assistance, and of this number 352,648, or 28 per cent., were occupied by persons other than the owners. This information is not available in respect of the period prior to 1st October, 1933.
