65. Mr. Kennedy

asked the Secretary for Mines the number of workers employed in the coal-mining industry in Scotland, certified to be suffering from silicosis, in each of the years from 1935 to 1939?

Mr. Hudson

The number of coal miners in Scotland certified under the Various Industries (Silicosis) Schemes, 1931 and 1934, was one in each of the years 1935 and 1936, two in each of the years 1937 and 1938, and three, according to provisional figures, in the first five months of 1939.

Mr. Kennedy

Is the right hon. Gentle man aware that there are in Scotland no facilities for the treatment of this disease similar to those in operation in England and elsewhere?
