HC Deb 11 July 1939 vol 349 c2029
10. Mr. Mathers

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is in a position to make a statement regarding the formal opening of the new Government buildings in Edinburgh?

14. Mr. Allan Chapman

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when the new Government offices in Edinburgh will be ready for occupation; whether any formal opening of this building is contemplated; and whether he can indicate the date?

Mr. Colville

It is hoped that the new Government building on the Calton Hill, Edinburgh, will be ready for occupation early in September. I am glad to be able to announce that His Majesty the King, accompanied by Her Majesty the Queen, has graciously agreed to open the building formally on the afternoon of Thursday, 12th October. With the King's approval, the new building will be known as St. Andrew's House.
