HC Deb 06 July 1939 vol 349 c1480
50. Mr. Stokes

asked the Lord Privy Seal which of the members of the Import Duties Advisory Committee is advising him on the price of fabricated steel; and what are his qualifications for this task?

Sir J. Anderson

The Import Duties Advisory Committee as a whole are responsible for cost investigation and for advising upon prices. For some years past they have been engaged in work of a similar nature. They are assisted by a staff of experienced civil servants, and have the benefit of the services of an independent accountant of high standing.

Mr. Stokes

Is not the Minister aware that not one member of the Import Duties Advisory Committee is competent to advise on the price of fabricated steel?
