HC Deb 06 July 1939 vol 349 c1459
13. Mr. Dingle Foot

asked the Minister of Labour whether the Government will invite Parliament to pass into law before the summer adjournment, or alternatively, before the end of the present session, the proposed Bill for providing assistance to distressed areas which are not at present scheduled as special areas under the Special Areas Act?

Mr. E. Brown

I would ask the hon. Member to await the reply which is to be given by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer to a question on the same subject by the hon. Member for Pontypool (Mr. Jenkins).

Mr. Rhys Davies

Does not the right hon. Gentleman realise the unfairness as between those areas which are not scheduled but which are much more distressed now than some of the areas which are scheduled?

Mr. Brown

That is another question. This is a loans facilities Bill, and it does not affect me.

Mr. Foot

The right hon. Gentleman has said that this will be dealt with in a later question. What will happen if the hon. Member who has put down the question is not present when it is reached?
