§ 15. Lieut. Commander Fletcherasked the Prime Minister what is the position regarding Mr. John Lennox and Miss Church who were recently arrested by the German police?
§ Mr. ButlerMiss Church and Mr. Lennox are still in the hands of the Secret 1268 Police in Vienna. The investigation into their cases appears to have been unexpectedly prolonged, but it is understood that the papers were sent to the judicial authorities on 19th June. His Majesty's Consul-General has repeatedly and urgently pressed the authorities to hasten their consideration of the matter but no charge has yet been formulated against the prisoners. The statements of the authorities indicate, however, that this will not be much longer delayed.
§ Lieut.-Commander FletcherHas the right hon. Gentleman received any information as to the treatment of these British subjects whilst under arrest?
§ Mr. ButlerMiss Church is reported to have been ill and to have received the medical treatment she required. Mr. Lennox is said to be in good health and spirits.
