§ 82. Mr. Stephenasked the Home Secretary whether he can make any statement 927 as to when the Royal Commission on Workmen's Compensation Acts are likely to report, in view of the urgent need for the amendment of these Acts?
§ Mr. PeakeI am afraid it would be quite impossible to make any such statement at the present stage. The Commission are engaged on a very difficult and complex inquiry and, as has already been pointed out in reply to previous questions, must deal with a very great mass of evidence, written and oral, before they can reach their conclusions.
§ Mr. StephenIs the hon. Gentleman aware that there is very great discontent among trade unionists about many things in this connection, and cannot he get an interim report?
§ Mr. PeakeThis is a matter on which a great many previous questions have been answered, and I am afraid that at this stage I can only refer my hon. Friend to the previous answers.
§ Mr. G. GriffithsDoes the hon. Gentleman know that coal miners are being killed every day?
