HC Deb 31 January 1939 vol 343 c12
20. Mr. Day

asked the Secretary of State for War particulars of the number of trades in which tuition is available at the various Army vocational centres; and the number of men at present undergoing training?

The Secretary of State for War (Mr. Hore-Belisha)

Instruction is given in 40 different trades, of which I will send the hon. Member a list. The number of men at the centres on 21st January last was 3,126, which is low, owing to vacancies awaiting considerable numbers of men arriving from abroad early in February. Ten thousand men can be trained in a year.

Mr. Day

Had these men the opportunity of deciding in which trades they would take their training?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

Yes, Sir.
