HC Deb 31 January 1939 vol 343 c19
37. Mr. Levy (for Mr. Turton)

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he will now consider the inclusion of sheep within the scope of the Livestock Industry Act?

Mr. Ramsbotham

An Order has now been made under Section 11 of the Livestock Industry Act regulating imports from all sources of live sheep, mutton and lamb. It is hoped that agreed programmes of imports will be settled by the Empire Meat Council. It should be added that the situation of the agricultural industry as a whole, including sheep, is now being reviewed in accordance with the announcement made by my right hon. Friend on 22nd December last.

Mr. T. Williams

When may the House expect an announcement on agricultural policy?

Mr. Ramsbotham

I cannot make a statement at this moment.
