HC Deb 31 January 1939 vol 343 cc45-6
16. Mr. R. Gibson (for Mr. Kelly)

asked the President of the Board of Trade what action has been taken to reduce the period of service of lightkeepers so that a month would be the longest period the keepers would be called on to serve each spell?

Mr. Stanley

The period of service of lightkeepers at rock stations varies as between station and station, and in many cases exceeds one month. I am not aware of sufficient grounds for altering the present arrangements.

Mr. Gibson

Can the right hon. Gentleman say what is the longest period at present?

Mr. Stanley

I think there is a maximum of two months.
