HC Deb 28 February 1939 vol 344 cc1067-8
41. Sir Frank Sanderson

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he will consider increasing the rate of pensions paid to officers' widows in view of the fact that the cost of living has considerably increased since this rate was fixed, and that many widows of officers who served their country honourably for many years are now living in very straitened circumstances?

Sir V. Warrenders

My hon. Friend is, I think, under a misapprehension. The rates of officers' widows' pensions were last reviewed in 1920, when the cost of living was considerably higher than it is to-day.
