HC Deb 28 February 1939 vol 344 cc1052-3
2. Mr. Day

asked the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs whether, in view of the fact that an Act has been passed by the Government of New South Wales giving effect to an exhibitors' quota of British films as defined in Part III of the Cinematograph Films Act passed in the United Kingdom in 1938, he will state, if possible, what are the intentions of other Dominion Governments on this subject?

Sir T. Inskip

The recent New South Wales legislation does not itself establish an exhibitors' quota for British films, but only provides that such a quota may be put into force by proclamation. As was stated in the reply given to the hon. Member on 21st February, no information is available as to the intentions of Governments in the Dominions elsewhere to introduce any new or amending legislation on this subject.

Mr. Day

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether it is the intention of New South Wales to put this Act into force by proclamation?

Sir T. Inskip

I have no information on that point at present.
