HC Deb 27 February 1939 vol 344 c897
53. Mr. Henderson Stewart

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether he can make any statement regarding the purpose of the additional grant to be made to the Travel Association of Great Britain and Ireland; and whether any part of this sum, or a separate grant, is likely to be offered to the Scottish Travel Association?

Mr. Cross

Yes, Sir. My right hon. Friend welcomes the opportunity to re move a misunderstanding. The chief object of the Travel Association is by over seas propaganda to increase the number of visitors from abroad to the United Kingdom, including, of course, Scotland. The Travel Association has recently been given an increased Treasury grant in order to promote the Come-to-Britain movement overseas. The Scottish Travel Association has in the past provided material for the general British travel and industrial development propaganda abroad and has received an annual payment from the Travel Association. My right hon. Friend anticipates that additional calls will be made in the future for material of this nature from the Scottish Travel Association and the payment will, of course, be correspondingly increased. Detailed discussions regarding this point are actually in progress between the two associations.
