HC Deb 27 February 1939 vol 344 cc891-2
43. Sir Joseph Leech

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether he has, during the past three months, with a view to developing the work of his Department, himself visited Northern centres and Special Areas to explain to manufacturers methods by which to secure increased export markets and to apply the information in his Department to expedite the revival of export trade?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Trade (Mr. Cross)

I have been asked to reply. I would refer to the first part of the answer given by my right hon. Friend to a similar question by the hon. and gallant Member for Penrith and Cockermouth (Lieut.-Colonel Dower) on 20th February.

44. Sir J. Leech

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether he is satisfied with the results of his personal conferences with manufacturers in the provinces in connection with the rehabilitation of the export trade; and if not, will he take further steps to speed matters up?

Mr. Cross

My right hon. Friend thinks that such personal contact is definitely useful. The answer to the second part of the question is in the affirmative.
