HC Deb 21 February 1939 vol 344 cc199-200
50. Mr. Edwards

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the present proportion of taxation from indirect sources and direct sources; and the comparative statistics for 1930?

Sir J. Simon

The proportion of taxation attributable to direct and indirect taxes included in the Budget estimate for the current year was stated in a reply given to the hon. Member for the Tradeston Division of Glasgow (Mr. T. Henderson) on 21st July last. The proportion of direct and indirect taxes for 1930–31 was given in a reply to a question by the hon. Member for Clay Cross (Mr. Ridley) on 16th February, 1938. I am sending the hon. Member copies of these answers.
