HC Deb 21 February 1939 vol 344 c182
20. Mr. Arthur Henderson

asked the President of the Board of Trade how often the reserve stores on lighthouses and lightships are changed?

Mr. Stanley

In the Trinity House service a stock of provisions is always kept to meet the contingency of a delayed relief. This is regularly examined by the inspecting officer and renewed as found necessary. In the Scottish service the position is somewhat different. A sufficient stock of provisions is carried to maintain a two months' reserve, but these provisions are regularly consumed and replenished. In the Irish service the authority does not provide a reserve, but the light keepers are required by the regulations to maintain an ample supply of provisions at the stations.

21. Mr. Henderson

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether consideration will be given to the desirability of fitting up lighthouses and lightships with wireless apparatus?

Mr. Stanley

I would refer the hon. Member to the answer given on 20th December to a question on this subject by my hon. Friend the Member for Stock-port (Mr. Hulbert).
