HC Deb 21 February 1939 vol 344 cc200-1
52. Mr. Cecil Wilson

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that spirits imported into this country from abroad are permitted, while in bonded warehouse, to be mixed with British wines and issue there from, having paid no spirits duty but only the comparatively low tax on the wines with which they are mingled; and whether he can state the total amount of spirits annually allowed to be so dealt with and the countries of origin of the spirits?

The Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Captain Euan Wallace)

I think the hon. Member is under a misapprehension, as the law does not permit spirits to be mixed with British wines in bonded warehouse.
