HC Deb 21 February 1939 vol 344 cc210-1
Mr. Holmes

(by Private Notice) asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether his attention has been called to the recent case of Bradford Third Equitable Building Society versus Borders, and whether His Majesty's Government contemplate any action in regard to it?

Sir J. Simon

Yes, Sir. Some of the questions discussed in the case referred to have already been receiving careful consideration by the Departments concerned, and in His Majesty's Government's opinion legislation is desirable to deal with some aspects of the law relating to building societies. A Bill is in course of preparation, and will be introduced at an early date.

Mr. Gallacher

Will the Chancellor of the Exchequer be prepared to meet Mrs. Borders and discuss with her many of these questions, which are of very great interest?
