HC Deb 20 February 1939 vol 344 c17
31. Lieut.-Colonel Dower

asked the Secretary to the Overseas Trade Department whether he has within the last three months had any interviews with the relative manufacturers for the purpose of improving the export to Brazil of British tin plates, iron wire, tubes, bicycles, electric machinery, and herring, for all of which there is a market in Brazil?

Mr. R. S. Hudson (Secretary, Overseas Trade Department)

I and the officials of my Department are in continuous contact with individuals, firms and trade associations for the purpose of maintaining and improving the export trade of this country. In the case of Brazil, however, the difficulty at the moment is not so much to find a market as to obtain prompt transfer of currency.
