HC Deb 16 February 1939 vol 343 cc1887-8
37. Mr. Hopkin

asked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been drawn to the report of Alderman Josiah Jones and Major R. C. E. Barclay to the committee of visitors of the Joint Counties' Mental Hospital, Carmarthen, in which they point out that four boys, mentally defective patients, whose ages range from five to 11, are housed with male patients in a ward meant to accommodate 40 patients but which holds 68; what steps he proposes to take to stop this overcrowding; when these four boys will be removed; how long the Board of Control have known these facts; and why nothing has been done to deal with these matters?

The Minister of Health (Mr. Elliot)

The extension of this hospital is now in hand, and an admission unit will shortly be completed providing an additional 50 housing, it is evident that there will be some difficulty. I will, however, make inquiries.
