HC Deb 15 February 1939 vol 343 cc1711-2
49. Miss Ward

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether, in view of the fact that the Navy is short of engine-room personnel and approaching engine-building firms for artificers and other engine-room ratings, he will take steps to see that such firms remain in being in order to train men for naval requirements?

Mr. Shakespeare

The Admiralty fully appreciate the importance of the engine-building industry, and I can assure my hon. Friend that the point to which she draws attention will not be overlooked.

Miss Ward

Will my hon. Friend make representations to the President of the Board of Trade and to the Prime Minister, in order that we may get on?
