HC Deb 14 February 1939 vol 343 c1645

Amendments made:

In page 20, line 23, after "notice," insert "to be served."

In line 23, after "Act," insert "on any person."—[Mr. Cross.]

7.46 p.m.

Mr. Cross

I beg to move, in page 20, line 24, after "post," to insert: and a letter containing the notice shall be deemed to be properly addressed if it is addressed to that person at his residence or place of business for the time being in Great Britain. Under the Interpretation Act, 1889, service by post is deemed to be effective by properly addressing a letter. This Amendment is designed to define what "properly addressing" means for the purposes of the Bill. Hence the words which are added after the expression "properly addressed."

Amendment agreed to.
