HC Deb 08 February 1939 vol 343 cc931-2
40. Sir Ernest Bennett

asked the Secretar of State for the Colonies whether, in view of the forthcoming Palestinian Conference and the general desire for a peaceful settlement of the differences involved, the practice, under the emergency laws or military law, of executing Arabs captured in action, or otherwise found in possession of arms, may be discontinued?

Mr. M. MacDonald

I fully share my hon. Friend's desire for a peaceful settlement of the issues involved in the Palestine question, but I do not consider that the situation yet justifies any relaxation of the emergency regulations now in force in Palestine.
