HC Deb 08 February 1939 vol 343 cc944-5
59. Mr. Hills

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that two Kings Causeway county road bridges, Swinefleet warping drain, and Earnshaw's warping drain, respectively, have been considered unsafe and should be altered and improved in the interests of the travelling public, and that the rural district council of Goole has been in communication with the county council of the West Riding of Yorkshire for a period of 10 years urging that these alterations should be carried out, but without result; and will he take some action without delay to have the necessary alterations made?

Captain Hudson

I am informed that the reconstruction of these two bridges is being planned in connection with a proposal to widen and re-align the road between Goole and Swinefleet. The necessary surveys have been completed, and the county council inform me that they hope to have the bridge plans prepared within six months.

60 Mr. Hills

asked the Minister of Transport when it is proposed to commence the construction of a bridge over the Wakefield, Knottingley, and Goole Railway on the road between Rawcliffe and Rickard Gyme in the district of Goole, West Riding of Yorkshire?

Captain Hudson

My right hon. Friend approved in June last a proposal by the West Riding County Council to construct a bridge over the railway to eliminate the existing level crossing on the Nottingham-Goole Road at Rawcliffe. I understand that the design for the bridge will be considered by the Fine Art Commission next week and that detailed plans will be ready in about three months' time.
