HC Deb 14 December 1939 vol 355 cc1258-9
38. Mr. Joel

asked the Home Secretary whether he can arrange for a test case to be carried to the highest legal tribunal in the country to ascertain what, under the law, is the exact position of pedestrians and motorists, respectively, at marked street-crossings?

Sir J. Anderson

It is not within my power to give effect to my hon. Friend's suggestion, and I would point out that no decision could do more than elucidate certain aspects of the reciprocal rights and liabilities of pedestrians and other road users at pedestrian crossing places, arising out of the facts of the particular case before the court.
