HC Deb 13 December 1939 vol 355 c1176
9. Mr. Jackson

asked the Secretary of State for Air why he has taken land for a flying school in Herefordshire; whether he consulted the Minister of Agriculture before doing so; and whether he is satisfied that other suitable land, less valuable for food production, was not available?

Sir K. Wood

The land referred to by the hon. Member was urgently required for training purposes. In the time available it was not possible to find any suitable alternative, but in consultation with the Ministry of Agriculture the plans were so arranged as to ensure that as little interference as possible was caused to agricultural interests.
