asked the Secretary of State for War whether the £50 a day which it costs to keep 23 German officer prisoners includes the rent for the mansion and the cost of erecting the barbed-wire defences and guarding the prisoners?

As my right hon. Friend stated in reply to the right hon. and gallant Member for Newcastle-under-Lyme (Colonel Wedgwood) on Tuesday, 21st November, the £50 does not include rent, which has not yet been settled, nor does it include any capital expenditure. It includes the cost of guarding the prisoners.
