HC Deb 05 December 1939 vol 355 c434
40. Mr. Gallacher

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that men of the Royal Engineers on duty at Liverpool docks are accommodated under very bad conditions in sheds; and will he look into the matter with a view to improving these conditions?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

I am informed that these men are not accommodated in sheds, but in Army huts of the recognised standard.

Mr. Gallacher

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that these lads wrote to me from the mining district of Fife, and that they would not have written unless the objections were serious?

Mr. Hore-Belisha

They may have relied upon the hon. Gentleman's credulity.
