§ 48. Mr. Boothbyasked the Prime Minister whether he is satisfied with the arrangement at present proposed for the use of His Majesty's Ship "Repulse"?
§ The Prime MinisterOn further consideration it has been thought preferable 1307 that "Repulse" should not leave European waters. Arrangements have, therefore, already been made that a liner should be available, and it has now been decided that His Majesty should proceed to Canada in Royal Mail Steamer "Empress of Australia."
§ Mr. BoothbyMay we take it that the "Empress of Australia" will have an escort of warships?
§ The Prime MinisterOh, yes, Sir.
§ Commander MarsdenCannot the Prime Minister endeavour to get a liner which has been built in British shipyards and not one of German construction?
§ The Prime MinisterIn the circumstances we had to take what liner was available, and I hope it may be some consolation to my hon. and gallant Friend to know that the engines of this ship were built in Glasgow.
§ Commander Sir Archibald SouthbyWill the ship be manned by naval ratings or by men of the Merchant Service?
