HC Deb 27 April 1939 vol 346 cc1282-3
3. Mr. Gallacher

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that many Employment Exchanges throughout the country are without lavatory accommodation for either men or women; and whether, in view of the fact that unemployed persons are often compelled to stay at the exchanges for considerable periods he will, in the interests of health, see that such accommodation is provided at all exchanges?

Mr. E. Brown

It is the intention of my right hon. Friend the First Commissioner of Works to provide conveniences for applicants where practicable and necessary in all except the smallest local offices, but the rate of progress must necessarily be giverned by the prior claims of more urgent work at the present time.

Mr. Gallacher

Is the Minister aware of the serious inconvenience which this causes to the unemployed and the danger to health, and will he, therefore, speed up this work?

Mr. Brown

The answer shows that there is continuous improvement going on.
