HC Deb 26 April 1939 vol 346 cc1142-3
61. Mr. Kirby

asked the Minister of Transport whether the three experts employed by the Merseyside boroughs to examine transport difficulties on Merseyside have yet reported; when such report will be made public; what is the nature of the experts' proposals as to co-ordination of passenger transport in the area; and do they include proposals for the establishment of short-run omnibus services through the Mersey Tunnel for the convenience of inhabitants of the boroughs comprising the port of Liverpool?

Captain Wallace

I think the hon. Member is referring to a report called for by a co-ordination committee of local authorities on Merseyside, to which I have seen references in the Press. It rests with the committee, and not with me, to determine whether the report should be published.

Mr. Kirby

Is the Ministry of Transport being consulted in regard to the report; and may I ask whether or not the Ministry will express any opinion on the matter dealt with in the latter part of my question?

Captain Wallace

No, Sir, this is a report of a committee which was set up to consider the matter and has nothing to do with me.
