HC Deb 26 April 1939 vol 346 c1133
40. Captain Plugge

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is now satisfied that the British Colonies or Mandated Territories can successfully defend themselves against any external or internal attack until assistance can be sent to them from elsewhere?

Mr. M. MacDonald

I am satisfied that the arrangements for the defence of British Colonies and Mandated Territories are well in hand.

Captain Plugge

May I ask my right hon. Friend whether he is aware of the steps taken by the French Government to train native troops on a large scale in the French Colonies?

Mr. MacDonald

Yes, Sir.
