HC Deb 25 April 1939 vol 346 cc960-1
45. Mr. Craven-Ellis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what steps His Majesty's Government have taken to obtain the co-operation of the banking system in securing that the Government borrowing places the least possible obstacle in the way of private enterprise and exerts its maximum effort in stimulating employment?

The Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Captain Crookshank)

There has been no lack of co-operation on the part of the banks and there is, therefore, no call for my right hon. Friend to take special steps of the nature indicated.

Mr. Craven-Ellis

In view of the inadequacy of the reply, I beg to give notice that I intend to raise this matter on the Adjournment at the earliest opportunity.
