HC Deb 25 April 1939 vol 346 c964
57. Mr. Mander

asked the Minister of Transport what is the position with regard to the Deans Road Bridge, Wolverhampton; and when he expects to be able to give sanction for its reconstruction?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Transport (Captain Austin Hudson)

The building of a new bridge over the canal is part of a larger scheme for a new road between Old Heath Road and Church Street. This scheme also includes a new bridge under the London Midland and Scottish Railway. My right hon. Friend cannot approve the scheme for grant from the Road Fund until he receives the detailed plans and estimates. The preparation of these is dependent upon the completion of an agreement between the Wolverhampton Corporation and the railway company, the terms of which are now under discussion.

Mr. Mander

Is the Minister aware that in the opinion of the Wolverhampton Corporation, it is his Department which is holding up this matter, and will he be good enough to look into the matter again?

Captain Hudson

It is a matter between the corporation and the railway, but I am informed that a draft agreement was sent to the town clerk last week.
