HC Deb 25 April 1939 vol 346 cc938-9
9. Mr. Day

asked the Secretary for Mines particulars of the provisions which have been made to render bomb-proof the reservoirs at present used for the storage of oil so as to ensure the maintenance of supplies of oil in this country in time of war?

The Secretary for Mines (Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd)

No, Sir. It has been explained on several occasions that it would not be in the public interest to disclose the steps which have been and are being taken to safeguard the supplies of oil to this country.

Mr. Day

Can the Minister say whether the sub-committee which has been looking into this matter has reached any decision?

Mr. Lloyd

Not without notice.

Miss Wilkinson

May I ask the hon. Gentleman whether he proposes to go on in his new office as he began, by withholding information from this House?
