HC Deb 24 April 1939 vol 346 c786
64. Mr. Thorne

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he can give any information in connection with the explosion at Woolwich Arsenal on Wednesday; how many people were injured; and what was the cause of the explosion?

The Financial Secretary to the War Office (Sir Victor Warrender)

The explosion occurred in connection with ammunition filling. Very little damage was done, but I regret to say that one man received severe burns and is in hospital, though his condition is now reported to be satisfactory. The cause of the explosion is not clear.
