HC Deb 03 April 1939 vol 345 cc2444-5
53. Mr. E. J. Williams

asked the Minister of Labour what are the results of his consultations with the Commissioner of the Special Areas for the establishment of new industries at Maesteg; and whether he is aware of the greater urgency for something to be done owing to the dismissal of hundreds of miners at the Caerau colliery in the district?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Labour (Mr. Lennox-Boyd)

The Commissioner for the Special Areas informs me that in the course of a deputation from the urban district council some months ago he affirmed his readiness in suitable circumstances to assist the establishment of a new industrial undertaking in the Maesteg Valley by the provision of a factory and the offer of other assistance. I need hardly say this offer still holds good.

Mr. Williams

May I ask whether the hon. Member or the Special Commissioner will be prepared to meet a delegation of the urban district council on this point?

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The Special Commissioner has already met the urban district council on a previous occasion, but I will convey the suggestion of the hon. Member to the appropriate quarter.
