HC Deb 03 April 1939 vol 345 c2421
1. Mr. Day

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India the number of political department cadre posts held by Europeans and Indians, respectively, as at the last convenient date; and the number of Indians seconded to other duties?

Mr. Munro (Lord of the Treasury)

I have been asked to reply. According to the half-yearly list of the Indian Political Service, issued in January last, the numbers of cadre posts held by Europeans and Indians respectively were 92 and 12. All the 15 Indians borne on the strength of the Service were employed in work of a political character.

Mr. Day

Will the hon. Gentleman inquire whether the recruitment of Europeans has increased according to the ratio laid down in the report of the League of Nations?

Mr. Munro

Yes, Sir.
