HC Deb 03 April 1939 vol 345 c2424
4. Rear-Admiral Sir Murray Sueter

asked the Prime Minister whether he will ask His Majesty's representatives in Scandinavia and in Central and South-Eastern Europe to report in what districts the dissemination of British news in foreign languages by the British Broadcasting Corporation is unsatisfactory, and in what ways the reception fails?

Mr. Butler

His Majesty's Government are well aware of the importance of these broadcasts, and are constantly considering, in consultation with the British Broadcasting Corporation, the means of securing that they are best received where they are most eagerly listened to. It will be realised that highly complex technical problems arise in attempting to achieve equally good reception all over Europe. His Majesty's representatives in the areas mentioned are already aware of the importance of watching the matter, and special reports are called for from them, as and when necessary.
