HC Deb 30 November 1938 vol 342 cc412-3
57. Mr. Ronald Robinson

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what steps have now been taken to secure the successful exploitation of oil concessions over the sea bed within the territorial waters of Trinidad?

Mr. M. MacDonald

I have nothing at present to add to the reply given by my predecessor to a similar question by my hon. Friend on 6th April last.

Mr. Robinson

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether the project to form a joint operating company to exploit these oilfields has been dropped?

Mr. MacDonald

I have said that the discussions are still continuing. Beyond that, I cannot make any statement.

Mr. G. Griffiths

Will the right hon. Gentleman see that the workers are not exploited as well as the oilfields?
