HC Deb 29 November 1938 vol 342 cc220-1
16. Mr. Davidson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he can now state when consideration of the recommendations of the Poor Persons' Representation (Scotland) Committee will be completed?

Mr. Colville

No, Sir, I am at present unable to add to the replies given to questions by the hon. Member on the subject on 14th and 15th November.

Mr. Davidson

In view of the fact that this report was issued in 1937, can the Minister give the House a satisfactory explanation with regard to the delay?

Mr. Colville

The changes recommended by the Committee have given rise to a difference of opinion among the profession and the local authorities. I am trying my best to reconcile these views, because legislation, if brought in, should as far as possible be on agreed lines.
