HC Deb 29 November 1938 vol 342 cc247-8
59. Mr. Parker

asked the Postmaster-General whether he can include the whole of Barking inside the Barking postal area owing to the inconvenience caused to residents in East Barking and business firms in the adjoining Thames-side industrial area through late delivery following the tendency of many correspondents to assume that Barking is the postal address of Barking residents and Barking firms?

The Assistant Postmaster-General (Sir Walter Womersley)

It is not practicable to include the whole of the Barking municipal area within the Barking postal area. The residents and business firms of Barking can help to remove any wrong impression which may be held by their correspondents if they show the correct postal address on their notepaper.

Mr. Parker

Will the hon. Gentleman look further into this difficulty, which is causing a great deal of trouble and inconvenience locally?

Sir W. Womersley

I have given my personal attention to this matter. I have here a large-scale map of the hon. Member's constituency, and if he will consult me after Questions, I will try to instruct him in the position of the postal areas in these districts.
