HC Deb 29 November 1938 vol 342 cc232-3
32. Mr. Day

asked the President of the Board of Trade the number of aircraft exported under licence for the 12 months ended the last convenient date?

Mr. Stanley

During the 12 months ended 31st October, 1938, the number of aircraft licensed for export was 242. Specific export licences are normally required only for aircraft of military types. Aircraft of these types are not separately distinguished in the Trade Returns but the total number of aircraft of United Kingdom manufacture exported during the period in question was 521.

Mr. Day

Has the Minister any knowledge whether any of these aircraft have been re-exported to countries which may be at war?

Mr. Stanley

No, Sir. As I have explained on several occasions, licences are not issued for Spain, and great efforts are made to see that the licences issued for export to other countries are not used for the re-export of the planes to Spain.
