HC Deb 23 November 1938 vol 341 cc1758-9
67. Commander Marsden

asked the Secretary of State for Air whether, in view of air-raid risks in Central London, it is still considered advisable to locate in Berkeley Square the new offices connected with the Air or other Ministry?

Sir K. Wood

Additional accommodation is required immediately to relieve the congestion that now exists in Air Ministry buildings, and to provide for further expansion. It is also essential under present circumstances that the new premises shall be within reasonable distance of the headquarters of the Department, which must remain for the present in the Kingsway area. The decision to move part of the staff to Berkeley Square House was taken after full consideration of all relevant factors, including that referred to by my hon. and gallant Friend, because it was the only large building which met our immediate requirements both as regards space and location.
