Morrisonasked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware of the alarm caused throughout North London at 10 p.m. on Armistice night by heavy gunfire from Alexandra Palace in connection with a television broadcast; and will he represent to the British Broadcasting Corporation that this display was out of place on such a day, and that, in the interests of children, old people, and invalids, adequate warning should be given when gunfire is included in the programme?
§ Major TryonI am informed by the British Broadcasting Corporation that, in connection with a play which was being televised from a studio on the evening of 11th November, 10 or 12 rounds of blank ammunition were fired outside Alexandra Palace by a unit of the Territorial Army. Having learned that the incident caused some disquiet in the neighbourhood, the Corporation has already expressed its regret. Firework effects were substituted when the play was repeated.
